6 Tips for Better Public Speaking

It's a well known fact that when people are going to address a large audience, it can be a little nerve racking. So what can you do to ease the situation? Here are a few tips that you can follow to make your public speaking event a little easier.

1. Know what you are going to say. -If you have a specific outline of criteria that you know you would like to cover, make sure you know it! The last thing you want to do is miss a few key thoughts.

2. Address the audience like you are talking to a friend. - Don't sound monotone, have your speech be vibrant, have it grab the attention of the audience in a positive way and don't bore them!

3. Draw from personal experience. - The easiest way to flow through public speaking, is talking about personal experiences regarding certain situations. (This pointer might not fit every time you are speaking, but it can in many.)

4. Try to be one of the first to speak. - If you are one of many people who are going to speak at a conference, try to be one of the first to speak. This way, your won't have to face repeating some thoughts that were previously stated by someone else and the audience will be more attentive.

5. Analyze the audience. - Know the crowd you are addressing. If you are speaking at a conference filled with marketers, make sure you have relevant information in what you say regarding marketing!

6. Practice, practice, practice. - It may not be true that you will memorize what you will say, but you will sure get really good at it. If you practice what you are going to say multiple times, chances are that when you are actually speaking to the audience, your thoughts will flow easier because you have already ran through it many times.

Just remember that you are addressing people that want to hear what you have to say, so just be yourself.
